WHY???

I recently read an article in the New York Times about Congressman Alan Grayson and his controversial statements in Congress. I like Grayson, and certainly like his approach, but what really got my attention was this:

Some Democrats also say that Mr. Grayson fills a void, defying their party’s inferiority complex, the constant sense that liberals just are not tough enough. They say that as an attention-grabbing motivator of the party’s base, he could prove hugely useful in getting out the message for next year’s midterm elections.

“There is always a feeling among liberals, a psychology that we are too apologetic; we see six sides to the Pentagon,” said James Carville, the Democratic operative and commentator, who met Mr. Grayson in a CNN studio shortly after the “die quickly” speech in Congress.

“He was smart; he’s not just a crank,” Mr. Carville said. “He wanted to be anything but an apologetic, ‘if I said anything that offended anybody’ kind of liberal.” Mr. Carville added that party leaders will view Mr. Grayson as a “torpedo” they can deploy, especially if Democrats lose important governors’ races this week.

“We need guys like that out there,” he said.

Why don't we have more Democrats like this?

Brilliant Bubba

It goes without saying that Bill Clinton is the most brilliant political mind of our time. The last two days have been filled with talk of WJC's adventure to secure the release of two jailed American journalists in North Korea. The details of the trip and the results have been all of the talk in the media and on the blogs, but it seems that the political aspect to this has been overlooked.

Barak Obama, president, leader of the free world, could not get those two journalists released, but Bill Clinton zips over there and within 48 hours they are back in America, sipping mimosas.

This kind of thing makes Obama look impotent and Hillary look strong.

With the rumors of Hillary 2012 swirling around the blogosphere I can't chalk this event up as anything other than a reminder to Democrat primary voters that when you want to get something done, you call the Clintons.

Too many Catholic Northerners on the court?

I have been hearing, learning and reading about President Obamas new Supreme Court Justice pick, and I must say that this lady is extraordinarily impressive.

NEW YORK - Sonia Sotomayor's path to the pinnacle of the legal profession began in the 1960s at a Bronx housing project just a couple blocks from Yankee Stadium, where she and her family dealt with one struggle after another.

She suffered juvenile diabetes that forced her to start insulin injections at age 8. Her father died the next year, leaving her to be raised by her mother — a nurse at a methadone clinic who always kept a pot of rice and beans on the stove...

...The Manhattan-born Sotomayor's humble upbringing has shaped her personality — vibrant and colorful, and so different from the Bronx projects where she grew up in a working-class existance in a home with a drab yellow kitchen.

She is a food-loving baseball buff as likely to eat a hot dog at a street corner stand as she is to sit down for a lengthy meal at a swanky Manhattan restaurant.

Let me make it clear that I have the upmost respect, not only for Mrs. Sotomayor but for all of those that have lived the American dream by rising from nothing to make something of themselves. Sonia Sotomayor is the ultimate example of what is possible in America with nothing but hard work and good character.

While I find this lady to be very impressive, and certainly a good representative of working class people, I can not help but take note of the current composition of the court.

Lets take a look at the current 9 justices...assuming Sotomayor gets the nod.

John Paul Stevens-----------Chicago, Il-----------------Protestant
Antonin Scilia---------------New Jersey-----------------Catholic
Anthony Kennedy-------------Sacramento, CA--------------Catholic
Clarance Thomas---------------Georgia-------------------Catholic
Ruth Bader Ginsburg-----------New York------------------Jewish
Stephen Bryer--------------Massachusetts----------------Jewish
John Roberts------------------Mary-land-----------------Catholic
Samuel Anthony Alito---------New Jersey-----------------Catholic
Sonia Sotomayor--------------New York-------------------Catholic

As respectfully as I can, I STRONGLY object. I feel that the Supreme Court should represent the entire country. Obviously not every faith, ethnic group, etc... in our vast and diverse land can be represented by only nine people. I understand that.

Do we really need almost HALF OF THE COURT TO BE FROM NEW YORK OR NEW JERSEY?

Do we need SIX CATHOLICS on the court?

I grew up in New Jersey and the New York/New Jersey tri state area part of the world is very different from most of the rest of America. It is Europe light. I don't state that to be offensive or objectionable, it is just a point of fact.

Further, we only have one justice on the court that believes in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior. Why is it OK for every ethnic group in the land to get a seat at the table but Christ followers get the shaft? The only discrimination still politically correct and acceptable is discrimination against Christian people, and I am not afraid to call it bullshit.

Senate Primary 2010

The 2010 Senate season has started early in Kentucky. It seems more and more that Jim Bunning is ripe for the pickings. Two Democrat heavyweights have jumped in the race in the form of Attorney General Jack Conway and Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo.

Being that the primary is about 14 months away I am not quite ready to pick a candidate yet, but I do have some thoughts on the race. On paper, what a fun race to watch unfold. Both candidates are really very similar. Both are very young. Both are well educated. Both are, unfortunately, Catholic. Both have lost a hard fought and close election in the past few years. Both are safe in the political seat they currently hold regardless on the outcome of the 2010 primary.

Three factors that make me lean toward Dr Dan Mongiardo are these.

First, once it was clear that Mongiardo and Conway would be the candidates all of the creepy career lifelong politicians in the Kentucky Democratic Party jumped onto the Jack Conway bandwagon.

Second, the last thing Kentucky needs is another big city Louisville politician to pretend to represent the rest of us.

Finally, Jack Conway's middle name is Duke.

Need I say more?

3/14 Quick Hits

-- I am still in wait and see mode regarding our President Obama. I sure as hell don't like all of this new deficit spending in the "stimulus package" but I'll hold my water for a bit. I guess these really are critical decisions at this particular moment in history, but thats what these bastards always say when they want to spend more of my grandchildrens money. Fine.

-- Howard Dean still should get the HHS job, like it or not.

-- So far I am very pleased with the performances of both Vice President Joe Biden and Sec State Hillary Clinton. So far so good, as neither have caused any trouble.

-- Is it me or has Rush Limbaugh become the 21st century version of Fidel Castro? Just when you think the old windbag has given up he returns again to poison the minds of another generation.
